Fabry-Perot Cavities

We’ve accumulated decades of experience in designing, testing, and optimizing Fabry-Perot cavities and housings for laser frequency stabilization. Let our experience work for your success. For many applications, a custom mirror coating, a standard cavity spacer, and matching vacuum housing allow for a quick delivery. For custom cavity lengths or applications, we build exactly what you need – and we love a challenge! To do so, we work closely with some of the finest suppliers in the industry, including FiveNine Optics and specialized coating houses.

  • Assistance selecting a cavity geometry & housing for your application
  • Fully characterized zero-crossing temperature (Tzc) of the spacer or cavity
  • High finesse Fabry-Perot cavity and/or multi-wavelength-band cavity options
  • We can also clean cavity mirrors, or upgrade your cavity with new mirrors

Cylindrical Cavities

Cylindrical cavities feature a tried-and-true geometry for spectroscopy, offering locked laser linewidths at the 40 Hz level.

  • 100 mm long, 1.5 GHz FSR
  • 50 mm diameter
  • Standard mirror configuration is plano-50 cm ROC
  • Zero crossing temperature may be selected at time of order

Notched Cavities

Notched cavities offer reduced acceleration sensitivity as compared to a cylindrical design. With a long spacer lengths, such as 100 – 300 mm, it is easier to achieve the lowest thermal noise floor and narrowest laser linewidths. We recommend a notched cavity geometry when Hz-level linewidths and low frequency drift are paramount.

  • 100 mm long, 1.5 GHz FSR
  • 50 mm diameter
  • Standard mirror configuration is plano-50 cm ROC
  • Zero crossing temperature may be selected at time of order

Spherical & Cubic Cavities

Spherical and cube cavities are the most compact cavity designs, while still delivering narrow linewidth performance.  These rigidly-held spacers can be moved without need for realignment.

  • 50 mm long, 3.0 GHz FSR
  • 50 mm diameter
  • Standard mirror configuration is plano-50 cm ROC
  • 2 x 50 cm ROC mirror configuration also available
  • Zero crossing temperature may be selected at time of order

Multiple-Bore Cavities

Greater flexibility and laser stabilization options in a convenient and cost-effective approach with our multi-line and multi-bore cavities. A single cavity spacer can accommodate up to four mirror pairs, providing a frequency reference for many different color lasers.

  • Enjoy common-mode drift when locking two to four lasers, e.g., cooling, clock, lattice, and repump lasers for Ba, Sr, or Yb
  • Cavity finesse and wavelengths are completely customizable
  • Broadband mirror coating options give 30,000 finesse from 600-1100 nm, providing a universal cavity for laser spectroscopy, regardless of your atom or ion.

Midplane Cavities

The careful design and mounting of midplane cavities means low vibration sensitivity in the vertical dimension. These cavities can be relocated while preserving alignment.

  • 78 mm long, 2 GHz FSR
  • 50 mm diameter
  • Standard mirror configuration is plano-50 cm ROC
  • Zero crossing temperature may be selected at time of order

Custom Cavities

We frequently provide additional customization of cavities & housings for our customers, from very long 200-300 mm cavities to power buildup and confocal cavities. Customization of individual optical elements may include:

  • Mirror coatings capable of finesse values ranging from 20 to 500,000
  • Multi-band mirror coatings using IBS dielectrics; crystalline mirrors
  • Spacers that are long, Z-shape, or which have multi-beam access for atomic physics & sensing
  • Unique options: build-up cavity, ULE ring cavity, confocal cavity
  • Folded cavities up to 300 mm in length for spectroscopy
